Three Greater Kruger reserves safari in 10 days (9 nights)

A trip spent entirely in the bush, with three nights in each of three private reserves that border Kruger National Park. It starts at a small camp in the Sabi Sand, which is known for leopard, then moves north to a lodge in Thornybush and ends in the Timbavati. The reserves are close together, so transfers are short. Each stay follows a routine of early-morning and late-afternoon drives, optional walks and meals at camp. It suits travellers who want repeated game drives more than time in a city.

The route, stop by stop

1. Sabi Sand, South Africa · 3 nights

Arrive by fly — Fly into Skukuza from Cape Town or Johannesburg, then transfer to camp

The reserve has an unfenced border with Kruger and a reputation for leopard sightings.

2. Thornybush, South Africa · 3 nights

Arrive by drive — Road transfer north between reserves

A small private reserve with small lodges, so the vehicles carry fewer guests. The sightings differ from the Sabi Sand.
