Two very different bird regions joined by one domestic flight. Four nights in Kruger cover the bushveld species, with guided drives from a rest camp. A flight to Cape Town then gives three nights in the south-western Cape, with Kirstenbosch gardens, the Cape Peninsula and, weather permitting, a pelagic boat trip for seabirds. With only two bases, the pace is unhurried.

The route, stop by stop

1. Kruger, South Africa · 4 nights

Arrive by drive — By road or a short flight from Johannesburg

Enough time on drives for a long savanna list, including storks, rollers and raptors, alongside the large mammals.
