Route 62 and Breede River wine country in 9 days (8 nights): Tulbagh, Breedekloof, Robertson and the Klein Karoo
An unhurried drive through the Cape's inland wine valleys, staying on family wine farms. It starts with two nights in the Tulbagh valley, ringed by mountains about 90 minutes from Cape Town, then two nights in the Breedekloof around Rawsonville and the Slanghoek valley. Next come two nights in the Robertson wine valley near McGregor and Bonnievale, on Route 62, and a final two nights in the Klein Karoo around Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn before the drive to George. Most stays are self-catering cottages or small guesthouses on working farms, and no drive is longer than about three hours.
