Kenya Mara conservancies and Lamu old town in 11 days (10 nights)
The trip starts with one night in Nairobi after the international flight. A light aircraft then flies into the Masai Mara for six nights, split between a camp by the river inside the reserve and a conservancy to the east. The conservancy was set up with Maasai landowners, and walking safaris and night drives are run there with Maasai guides. The last three nights are on Lamu, a Swahili stone town, reached by flying back through Nairobi. With only two long stays, there are few moves and the pace stays slow.
The route, stop by stop
1. Nairobi, Kenya · 1 night
One night to get over the flight. The Giraffe Centre or the Karen Blixen Museum can be visited if time allows.

2. Masai Mara, Kenya · 3 nights
A camp inside the reserve, close to the river, so game drives start right at camp.

3. Masai Mara, Kenya · 3 nights
The conservancy began as a land-lease scheme with Maasai landowners. Walking safaris and night drives are allowed here, and there are fewer vehicles than in the reserve.

4. Lamu, Kenya · 3 nights
Lamu Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a car-free Swahili town with a dhow harbour and narrow lanes you can walk, and the beach at Shela is close by.
