Kenya honeymoon, Mara and Lamu in 11 days (10 nights)

Two nights in Nairobi at the start make the capital a stop rather than a stopover, with a full day and a guide before the safari flight. A charter west then gives three nights in the Mara, enough for game drives at both ends of the day from one camp. The trip closes with five nights in the Lamu archipelago, reached by air through Nairobi, where a dhow, the old town and a long beach fill the days. Three bases, each reached by plane, so no long road transfers.

The route, stop by stop

1. Nairobi, Kenya · 2 nights

Arrive by fly — An overnight international flight of about nine hours into the capital, then a transfer to a central hotel.

Two nights give a full day with a guide and no rush to the domestic airport, which suits a couple arriving off a long flight.

2. Masai Mara, Kenya · 3 nights

Arrive by fly — A light aircraft charter from Wilson Airport into the reserve.

Three nights is the shortest stay that still gives two whole days out in the vehicle from a single camp.

3. Lamu, Kenya · 5 nights

Arrive by fly — Flights back through the capital, then out to the archipelago.

Five nights on the islands leave room for the Swahili old town, the boatyards and the mangrove channels as well as the beach days.
