A Western Cape opening followed by a private-reserve safari, with no full day spent driving. Two nights in Cape Town cover the Peninsula road and Table Mountain. Two nights in the Winelands sit a short transfer inland, with time between the estates rather than a day trip out and back. A domestic flight to the lowveld and a road transfer into Sabi Sand then give three nights of morning and evening drives on ground that shares an open boundary with Kruger. Three stops, two of them close together, so most of the week is spent in place.

The route, stop by stop

1. Cape Town, South Africa · 2 nights

Arrive by fly — International arrival at Cape Town, then a short road transfer into town

Two nights is the least that survives a long-haul arrival and still leaves one clear day for the Peninsula circuit.

2. Winelands, South Africa · 2 nights

Arrive by drive — Road transfer inland from Cape Town

The short hop out of the city changes the landscape for very little travel time, and the second night makes the wine country somewhere to stay rather than a day trip.

3. Sabi Sand, South Africa · 3 nights

Arrive by fly — Domestic flight to the Kruger lowveld, then a road transfer into the reserve

Three nights means six drive slots, which is roughly what leopard viewing in this reserve takes, with time left for a walk and an unhurried middle of the day.
